Liqueurs de France Launch Tobacco-Based Liqueur, Perique Liqueur de Tabac
London, UK (PRWEB) June 29, 2007 -- A new tobacco liqueur should ease the pain for smokers hit by the bans on smoking in bars and restaurants which will come into effect in the UK. Perique liqueur de tabac is produced by steeping Perique tobacco in grape spirit followed by distillation.
Perique is the rarest and most precious tobacco in the world, and can truly be considered a 'Grand Cru' tobacco. Early French settlers in Louisiana learned the secrets of Perique cultivation from the local native inhabitants, and while their descendents have continued the tradition for centuries, very little Perique exists today and it is only grown on around 40 acres of land around Grande Pointe Ridge, Louisiana. The unique terroir of the Mississippi River gives Perique the intense spices and aromas that contribute to the delicate balance of this fine liqueur. The tobacco is made by packing the bundles into whiskey casks to ferment in its own juices under pressure. Perique liqueur de tabac is distilled from dried tobacco leaf at the Combier distillery in Saumur, France and can be enjoyed in the same manner as one would a fine liqueur or brandy.
"With the ban on smoking in bars and restaurants we expect to see a big interest in products such as Perique from people who want to enjoy the flavour of a cigar after a meal but who can't now light one up" said Liqueurs de France director Ian Hutton. "Plus sipping a fine liqueur is going to be much more socially acceptable than smoking at a restaurant table."
Perique liqueur de tabac is available in a 50cl format at 31% abv with a RRP of GBP 22.00. Private customers can purchase the product online directly from the company website. Trade enquiries are welcome.
