A Month in Provence: Photographer Karen Fadel, Chosen as Exhibitor in the Laguna Beach Summer 2007 Show, Debuts her Series on France
Laguna Beach, CA (PRWEB) August 28, 2007 -- KarenFadel creates original images with mixed media and moods from her experiences while traveling in Provence, France. Ms. Fadel was selected to spend a month on a cultural exchange in the South of France by the Rotary Club International. She and four other professionals, representing Southern California businesses, traveled for an experience of a lifetime.
Ms. Fadel's French works on exhibit at the Festival of the Arts in Laguna Beach offer all an opportunity to see the experience through the unique perspective and eye of the artist. She employs the camera and a mix of unusual techniques to create original photographs. The result is each piece is unique, as her printing process adds dimensions to her works. Ms. Fadel experiments with various treatments during the development and printing process. Each image is printed as an original and has it's own depth and texture. Ms. Fadel begins her process with an original photograph and then adds her artistic sensibility to the subject matter. The collection is of original Polaroid ink transfers. Each image goes through a variety of artistic processes that include hand printing followed by hand painting.
In 2006, Ms. Fadel was selected as a member of a professional exchange program between Southern California and the South of France. This exchange was organized by the Rotary Club, an International service organization made up of local businesses with goals of cultural enrichment be it in poverty stricken areas of the world or cultural enrichment. The purpose of this specific trip was to introduce and demonstrate the differences and the similarities between like businesses in different parts of the world. The exchange candidates all took four weeks off from their professions, traveled through the South of France and lived in a family environment. Later in the year, the Americans returned the adventures and their French counterparts came to Southern CA to take in the American Rivera.
The French were excellent hosts, and the American visitors had little down time. Nevertheless, Ms. Fadel made sure to steal some moments to capture the beauty so she could show others the beauty of Southern France. Her body of work was accepted into the prestigious Festival of the Arts in Laguna Beach, California, for the 2007 season.
Provence is a delightful region of France, dotted by ancient hilltop villages overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Some of the lushest cities are in this region, including the famed Rivera and the towns of Cannes and Nice. It is known for its famous climate, cuisine and rich history.
Laguna Beach, California, is often referred to as the American Rivera -- a fitting selection for a cultural exchange. Ms. Fadel's photos celebrate France. The unique Festival of the Arts in Laguna Beach is an exhibit of work by fine artists. The Festival has been held every summer since 1932 and is located in a part of Southern California known as "The American Rivera." The art show includes paintings in multiple mediums, sculpture, jewelry and photography. Karen Fadel, now, in her fourth year as an exhibitor, is honored to be selected as part this exclusive exhibit.
"I am in awe to be in the company of the fine talent this festival draws each summer. This year's exhibit is especially impressive from the classic watercolorists and ceramic, marble, wood and bronze sculptures, print making to the student works. It is a true honor to be selected to exhibit in this show."
Ms. Fadel's technique is technologically at risk dueto the digital age. The processors are soon to be antiques and unavailable and the film itself is hard to come by as many of the manufacturing has been discontinued- Original work is rare. Each piece is unique due to the transfer process and different heat temperature during printing process and cannot be duplicated.
Prices for original work range from $225-$800. Reproductions range from $100 to $1000, depending on size. A portion of Ms. Fadel's proceeds from her 2007 Festival show will be donated to the Rotary Club International. The Festival of Arts exhibit runs through Friday, August 31, 2007.
